I’m reading nothing right now-help me out of my reader’s slump!
I love typing up “Currently Reading” posts because I’ve loved to read from a young age. This summer I’ve been going through a bit of a reading slump, however. I seem to just have lost my drive to want to read. At all.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the flurry of wedding planning/GRE studying/summer travel frenzy I’ve had, but it does stink. It may be because I get so burnt out on processing information at my job throughout the year that my brain is finally requesting a word siesta. But, reading used to be my main form of enjoyment during my leisure time.
Whatever the case may be, I think I just need some solid reading suggestions. This is where you can help me! The last couple of books I read were, ok…nothing to write home about. The last book I tried to read was The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved The Secret Life of Bees, also by Kidd, but I couldn’t get myself hooked on her tale of a middle aged woman suddenly seeking some passion in her humdrum life.
The last two books I read that really blew me away were The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (the Hulu series is ahhhmazing. Watch it!). There’s a reason these books are classics! Everything after them seemed to pale in comparison. I’ve even tried modern hits like The Girl on the Train, which I admit was interesting, but unfortunately I thought was too predictable in the end. So I’m also just being picky (stupid inner English major).
If you have any suggestions for me, comment below, comment on my Instagram page, or email me. I would love to get the “Currently Reading” posts back up soon, with a good and worthwhile read.
